DUKE OF EDINBURGHS AWARD
All training will include the following at your location or located in Yorkshire to cover D of E Expedition syllabus. Additional skill training will be needed for mountain bikeing, canoeing and kayaking;
· First Aid and Emergency Procedures
· Awareness of Risk and Health and Safety Issues
· Navigation and Route Planning
· Map and Compass Skills
· Camp Craft, Equipment and Hygiene
· Food and Cooking
· Countryside and Highway Codes
· Observation Recording and Presentations
· Team-building
· Route Planning
In addition to this training the following training and assessment will also take place;
Bronze Expeditions
2 day - Practice Expedition
1st day - Walk with Instructor and do practical navigation training
2nd day - Groups to walk unaccompanied for approx 12kms (if assessed as competent / safe to do so after training day)
2 day - Assessed Expedition, by Approved Accredited Assessor
2 days – at least 6 hours planned activity per day
Silver Expeditions
3 day - Practice Expedition
1st day - Walk with Instructor and do practical navigation training
2nd & 3rd day - Groups to walk unaccompanied (if assessed as competent / safe to do so after training day)
3 day - Assessed Expedition, by Approved Accredited Assessor
3 days – at least 7 hours planned activity per day
Gold Expeditions
3 day - Practice Expedition
1st day - Walk with Instructor and do practical navigation training
2nd & 3rd day - Groups to walk unaccompanied (if assessed as competent / safe to do so after training day)
4 day - Assessed Expedition, by Approved Accredited Assessor
4 days – at least 8 hours planned activity per day
